#13. Black & White Colour Overlay

A distinctive method of bringing out detail and depth in a photo.

This weeks technique was spotted over on Deviant Art and is based on an nice illustrated article created by Luke Roberts.

"In very simple terms, we're just making a photo black and white then overlaying the colour version on top. The difference is with this technique you can adjust which colours you want to appear more vividly (or subtly) in realtime, as well as adding contrast and depth to the photo."

The resulting effect is not too different to an earlier featured technique - #6. Extreme Contrast (Faux Bleach Bypass).

Conclusion
Another simple layer technique for adding a distinctive tone to you photos. I tried it out on a number of images and found it difficult to match it with a lot of subject matter. I like how the effect works here though - experimentation is the key.

About The Photo
Taken at the beautiful lakeside town of Bariloche, Argentina.
